According to a VA report in 2012, 22 Veterans, Active-Duty…
July was a busy month!
July was very productive in terms of meeting with people and organizations. We have, with each of these opportunities, with both organizations and individuals, emphasized our need to connect with the veteran community. To get the “word out” about what we offer the veterans. We have met with several American Legions, in New Hope and Yardley, PA, VFW’s in Doylestown and Yardley, PA, an organization called PRO-ACT, in Doylestown, PA, Veterans Administration staff in Doylestown, PA and the Vets Center in Bristol, PA. So, it has been a very busy month. Not many donations are coming through but many connections are being made.
Our first yoga class started in June, 2013, at the Solebury Club in Buckingham, PA. We only have one student attending, but it is a start. We hope that the class will fill out as we “spread the word.” July 2nd, 3rd and 4th was also a very busy time for the foundation. I was first interviewed by a local reporter for a newspaper article on July 2nd about how 4th of July fireworks might affect veterans with PTSD. When the interview hit the internet, it was picked up by a local TV channel who then wanted to interview me for the evening news. Fox 29 interviewed me at the Solebury Club and the video ran on the evening news on the 4th of July. You can view that video on this site under “In the News” or just scroll down to the July 4th interview blog.
Lastly, we were recently approached by an active duty soldier in New Hampshire who would like to put together a yoga program for his unit and, if successful, expand it to other units in his area. This opportunity came to us through a connection from a family member who happened to be speaking with this soldier. If it comes together, we will have established classes in Pennsylvania and in New England. Word-of-mouth will help us expand our offering and reach veterans in need. So, please help us spread the word by talking with whomever will listen.
